Mallorca has lately become one of the top wedding destinations for many couple from all over the world. This island is blessed with the deep turquoise sea, crystal blue coastline, beautiful mountains and nearly 300 days of sunshine each year, truly makes a unique place in the world.
It is less than a three-hour flight from northern Europe, so it is the perfect getaway for those in search of a little piece of paradise.
One of the joys of getting married in Mallorca, is that each area on the island is so different. The possibilities are endless, whether you are looking for a castle, a mountain top, a private villa, seashore, vineyard, a yacht or a sailing boat. And for a relatively small island, you and your guests can easily explore the surrounding areas without being limited to the wedding location.
Choose the right dates
Mallorca enjoys a classic Mediterranean climate of hot summers and mild winters.
This perfect weather means that you can enjoy an outdoor wedding in Mallorca without being limited by rain or the chance of cold in the summer.
Long sunny days and clear blue skies and cool sea breezes are pretty much guaranteed for the whole summer. June and September are the most popular months, but anytime between April and October is considered Wedding season.
Peak summer is during the months of July and August, these are the months when the chance of rains is highly unlikely, but the drawback is often the heat. If you choose to get married on a hot month, it is preferable to have a mid to late afternoon ceremony starting at 15:00 or 16:00. This is generally due to keeping guests out of the heat of the midday’s sun. It also means that dinner is later and, in true Spanish style, is usually followed by late-night dancing. You may also provide the guests with drinks before the ceremony, fans and chinese parasols. Many people choose the slightly cooler months of May or September. It’s warm enough to swim in the sea and the island is less crowded.
Mallorca has the perfect conditions to celebrate your wedding on the outside as you have an almost 100% good-weather-guarantee.
Legal or symbolic wedding?
If at least one of you has been legally resident in Spain for two years it is possible to arrange your civil marriage through the registry office of your local town hall. It will involve official translations of documents from your home country. Catholics may have an internationally valid legal wedding in Spain, provided that their local priest supplies the local church with the various documents. Catholic weddings have to take place in a church.
Whatever the kind of ceremony you are thinking of, enquire as early as possible as there are some restrictions you need to be aware of and paperwork can take long to do.
The easiest way, favoured by most couples, is to arrange to do the legal part of the marriage in your home country beforehand and come to Mallorca to celebrate with friends and family.
A non-religious wedding offers you not only the opportunity to determine the location of the ceremony itself, but also to arrange the process according to your wishes by a wedding speaker/ celebrant.
